My First Semester of Classroom Music Teaching

What a semester it has been. Along with growing to love the vibrant experiences that are part of teaching children, I have particularly loved the opportunity to see children establish a genuine interest in many different styles of music. I wrote the following as part of my teaching portfolio; fully aware that it has been a privilege to teach piano skills and to now integrate the teaching (and learning!) of a greater/ broader skillset in general music capabilities for primary-aged children. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching music is observing students grow in confidence as they develop new skills. It is particularly encouraging to see students learn to play instruments, create original compositions, strengthen their listening and audience skills, and discover that they are capable of achieving goals they may not have initially believed possible. Witnessing this growth reinforces the important role teachers play in supporting students' learning, confidence, and overall d...

Learning Scales- Visual Guide by Ellie Hallett

h ttps://pianoscales.com.au/ I would highly recommend this book: Learning to play hands together scales accurately has never been easier. This book is like having a teacher at home.  The result is that the student learns their scales much more quickly, efficiently and correctly from the first playing. The book has 98 full colour pages on quality paper and because it is spiral bound, it sits flat.

How to Add Practice to the log in My Music Staff

Image
To Log practice, students can navigate to the 'practice log' on the student portal and either manually add time or use the built-in timer.  1.  Access the Practice Log: Students can find the Practice Log either on the  My Music Staff Student Portal  or in the My Music Staff app.   2.  Add Practice Time: Manually:   Enter the date, duration, and any relevant notes.   Using the timer:   The timer will automatically start and stop, and the time can be added to the practice log afterward.   3.  Add Notes and Attachments: Students can add notes about their practice session and upload files like audio, video, or documents.   4.  Save and Review: Once the entry is complete, students can save it and review their practice history.   5.  Teacher Access: Teachers can access the Practice Log tab in the student's profile to view practice time and any notes or attachments shared by the student.   This great youtube video ...

How to Use Your Practice Notebook

Your Practice Notebook is to help your create goals within your practice sessions 1. Keep your music books and your notebook in an organized manner near the piano. Keep a pencil and eraser nearby. 2. Go over the blog post about the notebook images with your child if they are learning, or read for yourself if you are the student.  3. Notice the blank table labelled Scales/Arpeggios. The aim is to fill this in with the major and minor scales/arpeggios and exercises that you have acquired skills in. These are used as warm-ups for each practice session. 4. You will see a grid containing five items to practice and the days of the week for you to tick or sign if you have a child learning piano. This is your tracker. You can also enter the minutes you have practiced into the student portal on the My Music Staff App.  For adults, this grid is where you write your goals for the piece, tips and pointers to improve the piece. Items to practice Scales/Arpeggios - these are your war...
